Requirements Of Admission
Those seeking admission to the University must submit a completed application form, a non-refundable application fee, and all supporting documents to the Office of Admissions.

For First Year Students: Freshman applicants must submit:

An official secondary school transcript or GED certificate.
Results of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), if taken.
An official college transcript, if credits have been earned while in high school.

For Transfer Students: Applicants who have earned at least 12 semester or 16 quarter hours of university credits and achieved at least a "C" (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) average will be considered as transfer students. Applicants should request each college attended to forward an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. Credit will be considered only for courses in which grades of "C" or better have been earned. Any college courses completed more than 10 years prior to the date of enrollment at USM will be individually evaluated and may require validation by examination. Applicants with less than 12 semester or 16 quarter hours should follow the instructions for first year students.

A student who transfers from another university must receive a minimum of 30 credits from the University of St. Martin in order to receive a degree from the University of St. Martin. This minimum may be reduced by the Dean of Academic Affairs in cases where a collaboration agreement with the other university exists.

For Mature Students: There may be many reasons why individuals wish to continue their education. Some may study for career development or to update their job skills; some may study for personal challenge or satisfaction. Some take just one course; others work for a degree. Many of the courses offered by USM can be taken singly or each can be used to build up a certificate or degree to suit particular needs.

Some mature individuals who wish to continue with their education may not be able to meet the usual requirements for admission. USM provides an opportunity for these individuals to demonstrate that they can master the course material.

All applicants must have the basic skills needed for study at university level. Therefore, all candidates for admission undertake standardized placement tests in English, Mathematics, and Computer Literacy. Applicants who require additional preparation before entering college level studies will be placed in skills courses in the College Preparatory Program. Applicants who pass the placement examination or who successfully complete the required skills courses will be accepted into the university on a non-matriculated (provisional) basis. Students will be fully matriculated into the University upon completing twelve (12) or more credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better.

For Audit/Non-Matriculated Students: A Non-Matriculated Student is one who wishes to take classes but is not seeking a degree. Unless waived by the Dean of Academic Affairs, these applicants must submit the same documents for admission as required of first year applicants.
